Porcelain Care
- Variations in color, inclusions, pits, voids, fissures, resin pool fills, surface finish deviation, and mineral deposit are all natural aesthetic characteristics that may be included in your stone.
- Use mild soap and water for daily cleaning.
- Materials are porous and will need to be regularly sealed to minimize the risk of staining.
- Blot up spills immediately to minimize permanent damage to the stone.
- Use coasters under glasses, especially if they contain alcohol or citrus juices.
- Use trivets and hot pads.
- Use cutting boards.
- Never use abrasive or harsh chemicals.
- Special finishes (i.e. honed, leathered, etc.) and a uniform dark color may require more attention due to smudges, fingerprints, and water spots being more visible.
- Marbles are softer and more prone to scratch and patina over time.
- For Marbles and Quartzites, certain skin products and common household acids such as lemon juice, other citrus products, tomatoes, ketchup, and vinegars can react with the stone (called etching). Wipe up these products immediately, avoid cleaners with citrus-based ingredients, and use cutting boards to protect your countertops.
- Soapstones are a non-porous natural stone that does not require sealing. It is also heat and chemical resistant.
- Soapstones are a softer material, which makes them more prone to scratch and patina over time.
- Wax can be applied for aesthetic reasons, providing an enhanced color and minimizing the appearance of small scratches.
